Custom Composite Curing Oven
The curing oven project involved the full design, fabrication, and integration of a custom thermal curing system developed specifically for manufacturing UAV composite structures, where standard market-available ovens could not satisfy the required part size, temperature range, and curing precision. The oven was engineered with an internal working volume of approximately 2.0 m x 0.6 m x 0.5 m, making it suitable for long composite components such as UAV wing sections, while operating across a controlled curing temperature range of 70C to 150C. Its thermal system is powered by a 2000 W electric heating element, controlled through an Arduino-based PID temperature control system using a DS18B20 digital temperature sensor, allowing the oven to continuously measure internal temperature, compare it with the target curing setpoint, and automatically regulate heater activation through a relay-driven output. Mechanically, the oven body and mobile base were fully designed from scratch in SolidWorks using the Sheet Metal environment, then manufactured through laser cutting, bending, welding, bolting, and structural assembly, with rock wool insulation integrated inside the chamber to reduce heat loss, improve energy efficiency, and maintain uniform curing conditions.
